Sai Sanjay (No. 33), championship leader in the MRF F2000 category.

Starting this Friday, the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Car Racing Championship 2022 will enter its two-day, third and penultimate round at the Madras International Circuit. Racers from all categories will be fighting for points and positions, as the championship approaches its critical juncture.

Two categories, the MRF Formula 2000 and the recently introduced Volkswagen Polo Cup, will race four times each during the weekend. The Polo Cup will feature a 15-car field, with two drivers from Bangladesh, Avik Anwar, and Ishayat Hussain.

The MRF Formula 2000, which has five starts under its belt, will witness a head-to-head battle between Chennai’s Sai Sanjay, with 93 points, and Bengaluru’s Chirag Ghorpade, with 82 points, who have both recorded two wins. In the ITC category, Coimbatore veteran Arjun Balu of Race Concepts has thus far won all three races and holds a commanding lead of 35 points with 75 points under his belt.

Local racers Akkineni Anand Prasad of Performance Racing and his teammate Ritesh Rai lead the IJTC and Super Stock classes, respectively. However, both are being closely chased by their challengers, and the weekend’s races will undoubtedly see some heated action.
