Indian Junior Women’s Hockey Team Defeats South Africa 8-1 in Opening Match

The Indian junior women’s hockey team kicked off their tour in South Africa with a resounding 8-1 victory over the hosts.

The visitors showed a great attacking structure and scored successive goals right from the first minute of the game.

Deepika Sr. (1′, 30′), vice-captain Rujata Dadaso Pisal (18′), Hritika Singh (20′), Sunelita Toppo (28′), Deepika Soreng (36′) and Annu (44′) all found the back of the net on Friday.

For South Africa, Mikkela Le Roux (36′) scored the sole goal.

The Indian junior women’s team will face the South Africa U-21 team for two more matches on Saturday and Monday, followed by two games against the South Africa ‘A’ team on February 24 and 25.
