IPL 2023: Rajasthan Royals Struggle to Explain Their Campaign Collapse

The Rajasthan Royals had a major collapse against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium on Sunday, which was deemed as a brainfade moment by head coach Kumar Sangakkara. The Royals started the IPL 2023 season with four wins in the first five games but then fizzled out in the last eight games. Unfortunately, the team’s efforts have not been enough to earn them a spot in the playoffs as they hold the 6th spot in the points table with only one league game to go.

After the match, Royals’ captain Sanju Samson was perplexed and lacked words to explain where the team floundered. He pointed towards the capricious nature of T20 cricket and the reality that things can change within a couple of days. He urged his team to be strong, professional, and take responsibility for their performance.

During the post-match press conference, Sangakkara expressed disappointment in the team’s performance in the first six overs of the home game against RCB. Although the team had held RCB to 171, which could have been a good chase, the Royals got carried away in Powerplay and lost five wickets, resulting in a 112-run loss.

Samson also highlighted the team’s poor performance in Powerplay, stating that they usually go hard during this period but failed to do so in the game against RCB. He credited RCB’s bowlers for their great energy and determination to win the game.

Unfortunately, the team was unable to find solutions to their campaign’s collapse, leaving fans and experts with more questions than answers.
