New York Strikers join Lanka Premier League as Colombo Strikers

The New York Strikers, who were runners-up in their debut season of Abu Dhabi T10 last year, have now secured a team franchise in the Lanka Premier League. The franchise, named the Colombo Strikers, is owned by Sagar Khanna and will be joining the likes of Kandy Falcons, Jaffna Kings, Galle Gladiators, and Dambulla Aura for the upcoming tournament.

The owner of the Colombo Strikers franchise is Sagar Khanna, who is the owner of the Skky Group, a well-established player in the hospitality, retail, and real estate verticals. This marks Khanna’s maiden entry into cricket, having previously co-founded the Skky Strikers, a New York-based cricket franchise, which he later took full ownership of. The Skky Strikers performed impressively in various United States-based cricket tournaments before setting their sights on Abu Dhabi and Sri Lanka.

Khanna expressed his excitement about expanding the franchise’s operations to Sri Lanka by saying, “We have created a strong bond with our fans in the US and Abu Dhabi, and we look forward to creating the same with the cricket-loving community in Colombo. The cricket culture in the city and our brand of cricket will surely make for an exciting combination. We cannot wait to share the unbreakable spirit of the Strikers with the cricket enthusiasts in Colombo.”

Fans can look forward to watching the Colombo Strikers in action during the Lanka Premier League’s fourth edition, which is scheduled for July-August 2023.
