Priyanshu Rajawat, a rising Indian badminton player, has advanced to the finals of a BWF World Tour Super 300 event for the first time in his career by defeating Nhat Nguyen of Ireland in straight games, 21-12, 21-9, at the Orleans Masters Badminton 2023 on Saturday.

Priyanshu had previously appeared in the final of the BWF World Tour at last year’s Odisha Open, a Super 100 event, where he lost to his compatriot Kiran George in Cuttack.

Although Priyanshu struggled in the beginning and fell behind 5-2, he won six points in a row to take control of the match. From that point on, the 21-year-old Indian, who was a member of India’s historic Thomas Cup-winning squad in Bangkok last year, was unrelenting.

Priyanshu dominated the first game and carried his form into the second, winning the first four points in a row. He kept the momentum going throughout the remainder of the game en route to a quick victory.

At the French meet, Priyanshu was the last remaining Indian player and has been in excellent form. In the second round, he defeated Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto, who was ranked 12th in the world and won the Madrid Spain Masters title leading into the Orleans Masters, where he was the top seed.
