Rasmus Hojlund’s Form Affected by Manchester United Rumors, Admits Atalanta Manager

Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini has revealed that Rasmus Hojlund was distracted by transfer rumors earlier this season. The 20-year-old Danish striker has been a target for Manchester United, amongst other clubs, in recent months. Gasperini believes that the rumors did affect Hojlund’s form but was pleased to see him return to scoring ways over the weekend.

Hojlund has been one of the most sought-after players in world football following an excellent season with Atalanta. He has already scored eight goals in his first 30 appearances in Serie A, despite being only 20 years old. He also showcased his talents during the Euro qualifiers, scoring five times in two games for Denmark.

United has been following the player for some time as they look to add to their striking options, with Erik ten Hag also on the lookout for a new No 9. However, Atalanta is likely to demand a significant fee for their star striker.

Gasperini spoke to Tuttosport about the rumors surrounding Hojlund, “At the beginning, we had to get to know him, but he immediately stood out for his great will to break through. He did very well after the first stop, then he was called up to the national team and too many rumors distracted him, then there was the [abductor] injury.”

“Today’s goal demonstrates his power. If he can improve, he can take away great satisfaction. You have to know how to accept his moments. He will mature in all aspects.”

Hojlund had previously revealed that he was a Manchester United fan in his youth, and he would jump at the chance to join the club. “I will not hide the fact that I am a huge Manchester United fan, so personally, it would be one of the biggest things for me [to sign for United], but of course that doesn’t mean that I would turn down other big clubs if the offers come at some point,” Hojlund said.

Ten Hag has also been considering Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen for the role of new striker as he looks to strengthen his squad ahead of next season.
