India emerged victorious over Uzbekistan in the Asia-Oceania Billie Jean King Cup women’s tennis tournament held in Tashkent. Rutuja Bhosale spearheaded the victory, overcoming Sabrina Olimjanova 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 in the opening singles match while Ankita Raina cruised past Sevil Yuldasheva in straight sets. Shrivalli Bhamidipaty and Vaidehi Chaudhari closed the tie with a emphatic 6-1, 6-0 win against the Uzbek pair in doubles.
The win places India in joint first position, along with Japan, both with two victories each, after Korea surprisingly defeated China 2-1.
India will take on China on Thursday in their next match.
