Sehwag Recalls Interaction with Shaw and Gavaskar

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has opened up about his interaction with young batsman Prithvi Shaw, who has recently faced criticism for his poor form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Sehwag said that, during an ad shoot, he spent six hours with Shaw and Shubman Gill, neither of whom discussed cricket. Sehwag also recounted how, when he was new to the team, he asked the Indian cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar if he would meet him. Subsequently, head coach John Wright organised a dinner for Sehwag and his partner, Aakash Chopra, so that they could talk batting with Gavaskar.

Discussing Shaw’s currently-turbulent campaign, Sehwag emphasised the importance of mental toughness. While talking about Shaw, Sehwag recalled his lesser-known interaction with Gavaskar(ANI)

Shaw, who was once regarded as the next big thing in Indian cricket, had been left out of the Delhi Capitals lineup due to a string of low scores. However, the young batsman hit back in style by scoring a quickfire half-century in their win against the Punjab Kings.

The former Indian skipper further stated that it is important for players to communicate with each other, and if a player wants to talk to someone like Gavaskar, they must request a meeting.
