Sergio Pérez has won the Formula One Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2023, with Red Bull securing the top two places. Perez secured his victory using a safety car period. This enabled him to beat his teammate Max Verstappen to the finish line. Verstappen started the race from second place, with Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc in pole position. Verstappen overtook Leclerc on the first lap of the race, with Pérez closely following suit. The Red Bull team has kept up its strong start to the 2023 season. Red Bull has emerged victorious in all four Grand Prix races, as well as the sprint in Baku.
During the race, an incident happened with Nyck de Vries, after he slid off the track with a broken suspension. The safety car was called out, which gave Pérez and Leclerc the opportunity to speed ahead. Both drivers were able to outpace Verstappen after he had pitted from the lead. After this point, the two Red Bull drivers managed to pull away from the rest of the pack and coasted their way to an easy victory.
After securing his victory, Pérez congratulated his team and said, “We dominated this weekend. We are in the fight, guys.” He is now tied with Verstappen with two wins each, and a six-point difference after four rounds. Charles Leclerc came in third place, securing Ferrari’s first podium appearance of the year. George Russell of Mercedes claimed the fastest lap.
