During the 63rd game of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Marcus Stoinis played an incredible innings against England pacer Chris Jordan. In the 18th over, Stoinis smashed a six, followed by a dot ball. He then hit a boundary which was well-placed to outsmart the fielder at deep square leg. The former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) all-rounder followed it up with a four and another remarkable six off Jordan’s off-cutter. Jordan leaked another boundary as Stoinis reached an unbeaten score of 89 off 47 balls at the end of the over. MI skipper Rohit was in disbelief, while LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir gave Stoinis a standing ovation.
Jordan conceded a total of 50 runs in his four overs, including 24 runs in the 18th over. Stoinis was unbeaten on 89 off 47 balls and was declared the Player of the Match for his exceptional performance against Mumbai Indians. Speaking after the game, Stoinis said, “We have shown that we are a real team, there no real superstars, there are different people stepping up and performing for us. We are missing KL (Rahul), but we have KP (Krunal) leading us, and Andy (Flower) has a really good brain.”
Thanks to Stoinis’ brilliant knock, Krunal Pandya’s LSG managed to post a score of 177-3 in 20 overs. MI, in reply, could only muster 172-5 in 20 overs, leading to an exciting victory for LSG over the record-time winners by 5 runs at home.
