Wrestlers Agree to Narco Test Under Supreme Court Supervision in Response to Brij Bhushan’s Demand

Wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Sangeeta Phogat and Sakshi Malik address a press conference during a protest demonstration against WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in New Delhi on May 22, 2023.

In response to ongoing protests against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, wrestlers have announced that they are willing to undergo a narco test supervised by the Supreme Court. They have also demanded that the test be carried out on both themselves and Mr. Singh and that it be broadcasted to the public.

This comes after Mr. Singh, who has been accused of sexual harassment, stated on Sunday that he would take a polygraph test if one was given to wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia. Mr. Punia has stated that the wrestlers had been prepared for a narco test for some time and that the test should be overseen by the Supreme Court and made public.

Ms. Phogat, who has been one of the main voices of the wrestler’s protest, has also expressed her readiness to undergo the narco test. She stated that it should be made public so that everyone can see the unfair treatment that women in the country often face.

Mr. Punia has accused Mr. Singh of avoiding the law and misleading the public while also being elevated to star status on social media. However, Mr. Singh has yet to address the wrestler’s demand for a narco test and the protests against him continue.
