‘SKY didn’t like it’: Mumbai Indians lost to Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2023 match – ex-India pacer

Mumbai Indians were off to a great start with openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan scoring 90 runs without losing a wicket in the 10th over of the 178-run chase against Lucknow Super Giants. However, things turned around quickly when LSG’s leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi dismissed Rohit and Kishan in successive overs. The momentum shifted towards LSG, and the pressure kept mounting as Suryakumar Yadav and Nehal Wadhera had a lull period for three overs, during which Wadhera played six dot balls. Suryakumar tried a lap shot off Yash Thakur but flicked back onto his stumps. Suryakumar Yadav(PTI)

Former India pacer RP Singh said that the inability to build a partnership between Kishan and Wadhera after Rohit’s dismissal was one of the reasons for Mumbai Indians’ loss. Singh shared that Wadhera ended up playing many dot balls, building pressure. Yadav was unable to rotate the strike well and had to stand on the runner’s end for a while. “He probably didn’t like it and it probably was one of the reasons behind the loss,” he added.

Despite the middle-over muddle, Mumbai Indians managed to recover as Tim David’s hits in the 19th over brought the equation down to 11 off six balls. But, Mohsin Khan of LSG bowled outstandingly and concedes only five runs in the over, sealing their victory.

Marcus Stoinis’s brilliant 89-run knock was instrumental in putting up a competitive total and helped him win the Player of the Match. Parthiv Patel praised Stoinis’ batting and how he navigated a tricky pitch that wasn’t easy for batting.
