Devin Haney disputes contract extension with Top Rank before fight

Devin Haney denies that he extended his contract with Top Rank before his fight and took a jab at Bob Arum for claiming that Vasyl Lomachenko easily won their fight last Saturday night. Paulie Malignaggi had claimed that Haney re-signed with Top Rank two days before the match, which some speculate as the reason for his controversial 12 round unanimous victory. Hearn did not seem enthusiastic when asked about the possibility of re-signing him to Matchroom Boxing, as Haney is now “very expensive,” but he did propose that Haney fight WBC light welterweight champion Regis Prograis or WBA belt holder Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero.

Haney referred to Bob Arum as “old a**” on Twitter, indicating his disapproval of Arum’s comment. It is uncertain which promoter Haney will sign with if he does not re-up with Top Rank.

Lomachenko let off in the 12th

Teddy Atlas commented on the Haney vs. Lomachenko fight, noting two rounds were clearly not close. Lomachenko was coming on strong in the later rounds, but Haney behaved like a champion in the 12th round and won the fight. “The Fight” provided commentary with Ken Rideout asserting that he didn’t see any problem with Haney winning 115-113 or having a close fight, but he did object to Dave Moretti giving Haney the tenth round, which wasn’t close.

Atlas felt that Lomachenko should have won the fight but lost momentum in the 11th round, therefore losing his chance to win. He thought that Haney won the twelfth round and agreed that Lomachenko could have put a clamp on the fight in the aforementioned round.
