Kyle Dubas Might Be the Next GM of the Pittsburgh Penguins

There is no more a rumor going around that the Pittsburgh Penguins might be seriously considering former Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas as their next general manager.

On Saturday night, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman announced that the Pittsburgh Penguins had changed their minds and are now pursuing Dubas to fill the role of their next general manager.

“So on Saturday night we reported that the Penguins were expected to ask to permission to speak to Dubas,” said Friedman on the 32 Thoughts Podcast. “As we tape this after Game 2 of the Western Conference Final, I hear that they do have permission to speak to Dubas.”

Friedman also explained that we might not have to wait long to see any results: “So if this is going to go anywhere I think we are going to find out pretty quickly,” he said.

The Penguins were under the impression that they had already found their next general manager before Dubas became available. However, given his availability, it appears Dubas has thrown a wrench in their plans. Friedman said: “From what I understand, Pittsburgh was very close to ending their search. I think that there was the possibility that we were going to find out who the head of Pittsburgh’s hockey operations was going to be early this week. I believe that was the plan and that’s where we were headed.”

Despite these latest developments, it’s still uncertain whether Dubas would ultimately sign with the Penguins.
