LeBron James Considering Retirement and Uncertain About Lakers Future for 2023-24 Season, Reports Say

NBA superstar LeBron James is considering retirement and is uncertain about his status for the 2023-24 season with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report. After the Lakers were swept out of the Western Conference Finals by the Denver Nuggets, Haynes reported that James has a lot to weigh and has thought about calling it quits.

James, who is now 38 years old, has one more guaranteed season with the Lakers after this one and a player option for the 2024-25 campaign. He missed 27 games this season due to foot, ankle, and leg issues, but still averaged 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game while shooting 50 percent from the field. He was named to the All-NBA third team.

In a postgame interview following the Lakers’ elimination, James was also cryptic about his future in the league.

Retirement may be on James’ mind because his oldest son, Bronny, is set to become a freshman standout for the USC Trojans next year and may soon follow in his father’s footsteps by entering the NBA.

If this is the end of his career, James will leave behind a legacy that includes four NBA titles, four MVP trophies, multiple All-NBA and All-Star selections, the NBA’s all-time scoring record, and the title of the greatest player of his generation.
