Lomachenko Loses A Controversial Decision To Haney?

Promoter Bob Arum (Top Rank), Lou DiBella (DiBella Entertainment) and Devin Haney presented the Main Event in WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBF World Lightweight championship for Devin “The Dream” Haney to defend his world title against Vasyl “Loma” Lomachenko at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada Saturday night over DAZN PPV. However, it was a disputed decision that left fans wondering if Lomachenko had been robbed.

After reviewing the fight on Youtube.com, here is how it went down. In the first round, Lomachenko was more active and outworked Haney. Hence, it was Loma’s round. During the second round, Haney came back strong and landed good rights on Lomachenko’s body, which his round.

In the following round, Lomachenko regained his momentum and took the round, thanks to his better footwork and hand speed. Halfway into the fourth round, Haney bounced back and ended up winning a closely contested round. The fifth was Lomachenko’s round after he landed a combination of punches that drove Haney to the ropes.

In the sixth round, Haney worked Lomachenko’s body, but Referee Dock warned him for hitting behind the head. Despite this, Haney still won the round. In the seventh round, Lomachenko took the round after landing a pair of powerful punches that had Haney backpedaling. However, Haney landed a good left hook to the chin of Lomachenko in the final minute. It was Haney’s round. Both boxers had their moments in the eighth round, but Haney ended up winning the round.

In the ninth and tenth rounds, Lomachenko fought well, outworking Haney for the most part. Therefore, it was Loma’s rounds. In the eleventh round, Lomachenko dominated Haney, putting him in a corner and firing away. He did the same midway through the round, making it Loma’s round again. In the final round, Haney had a good run, landing several rights on Lomachenko. Therefore, Haney’s round.

The referee, Harvey Dock, performed very well, despite being underrated.

Despite most of the reviews going to Lomachenko, I watched the entire fight, and after reviewing it, Lomachenko won 115-113 and not Haney. Unfortunately, it seems Haney may not give Lomachenko a rematch. There are also rumors that Haney is considering moving to a higher weight limit to avoid fighting him.

This decision has disappointed fans who were looking forward to Shakur Stevenson or Gervonta “Tank” Davis fighting Haney. Going into the fight, many had overrated Haney, but after seeing this contest, they might have revised their opinions. Interestingly, Lomachenko fought better in this one than he did against Lopez in the previous fight that he lost 115-113.
