Manchester United considering selling Anthony Martial despite Joel Glazer’s admiration

Anthony Martial is likely to leave Manchester United this summer, despite being one of Joel Glazer’s favorite players. The French forward has had an inconsistent performance throughout his eight-year service at Old Trafford. United is now preparing to move the player on to recoup some funds to invest in their squad.

When Martial arrived from AS Monaco in 2015, he immediately became popular among supporters following his iconic debut goal against Liverpool. Despite several promising spells, including his 17-goal campaign during the 2019/20 season, Martial has failed to deliver consistent performances, prompting United to push him towards the exit door.

The Sun reports that eyebrows have been raised by United staff over Martial’s decision to wear gloves during mild weather, which has raised questions about his character and led to frustrations among supporters over his body language.

Although Glazer has stopped several transfer offers to keep Martial, he has managed just nine goals in the Premier League over the last three seasons. Martial has struggled with injuries and failed to secure his position as United’s first-choice centre-forward, with Wout Weghorst enjoying a greater run of games in attack since joining in January.

Martial’s contract is due to expire in 2024, and United can capitalize on this opportunity to sell the player. However, his stock has significantly dropped in recent seasons, with little interest in the player. United is poised to spend big money on a new No.9 this summer, with Harry Kane as the primary target, followed by Victor Osimhen and Dusan Vlahovic if Tottenham refuses to sell Kane. United also intends to sign a younger striker for the future, with Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund and Brighton’s Evan Ferguson among the main targets.
