Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra has claimed the top spot in the latest men’s javelin throw rankings released by the World Athletics, marking the first time he has achieved this feat.

Chopra secured the leading position with a score of 1455, outpacing reigning world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada, who scored 1433.

Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch, the silver medallist at the Tokyo Olympics, ranked third with 1416 points.

Chopra initially rose to number two on the charts on August 30, 2020 but had been unable to surpass Peters until now.

In September of the same year, he became the first Indian to win the prestigious trophy at the Diamond League 2022 finals in Zurich.

On May 5, he claimed the title at the season-opening Doha Diamond League by throwing a distance of 88.67 meters.

Chopra is set to compete next at the FBK Games on June 4 in the Netherlands, followed by the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland, on June 13.
