The Maple Leafs and Penguins can talk to Brad Treliving

The Calgary Flames have granted the Toronto Maple Leafs permission to speak with Brad Treliving about their General Manager (GM) position, but he will not be allowed to take part in any draft or amateur scouting discussions. Pittsburgh Penguins also intend to talk to Treliving, but they have to wait until his current contract expires on June 30th.

Gary Bettman to meet with Joel Quenneville

After the NHL season, Commissioner Gary Bettman is planning to meet with Joel Quenneville and review his status. This rumor came from information provided by Darren Dreger via his Twitter account.

Salt Lake a relocation option?

If the Arizona Coyotes decide to relocate their team, Salt Lake City may become one of the favored options, according to Pierre LeBrun on TSN 1050 radio. Although, other places like Houston and Atlanta may still be considered as options for potential expansion teams.

The New York Islanders may need to move some money to re-sign some free agents

The New York Islanders are projected to have $6.1 million in cap space with 19 players under contract; however, they need to re-sign several free agents like Pierre Engvall (UFA), Zach Parise (UFA), Scott Mayfield (UFA), Semyon Varlamov (UFA), Samuel Bolduc (RFA), and Oliver Wahlstrom (RFA), among others. Kevin Kurz of The Athletic speculates that the Islanders may need to move Josh Bailey to bring back Engvall.

Bailey’s $5 million cap hit and the Islanders’ need to clear cap space to re-sign Engvall might make Bailey a good candidate for a trade or even a buyout. There’s also a possibility that some of the UFAs may not come back next season, including Bailey. Varlamov has expressed interest in returning but keeping the 35-year-old goalie for more than two years may not be an option for the Islanders. If Varlamov hits free agency, he might be valued at $3 million annually for three years, and there could be several interested teams.
