U-16 Davis Cup

The Story:

Korea, the top seed, defeated India in the quarterfinals of the Asia-Oceania Junior Davis Cup under-16 tennis tournament held in Shymkent, Kazakhstan. Korea won both the singles matches in straight sets. The second-seeded Indian team will now play Australia in the positional play-off for the 5-8th places.

The Match:

Moobeeb Kim of Korea won the opening singles match against Rethin Pranav of India 7-6(2), 6-1. In the second match, Donghyun Hwang of Korea defeated India’s Kriish Tyagi in straight sets. Korea chose to give a walkover in the doubles, which was an inconsequential match by then.

The Semifinals:

The teams that made it to the semifinals were Kazakhstan, Thailand, Japan, and Korea. All four teams have qualified for the World Group competition scheduled to take place later in Europe.

The Results:

Korea bt India 2-1 (Moobeeb Kim bt Rethin Pranav 7-6(2), 6-1; Donghyun Hwang bt Kriish Tyagi 6-2, 6-3; Yeonsu Jeong & Moobeeb Kim lost to Aarjun Pandit & Kriish Tyagi w.o.).
