Indian Women Skeet Shooters Create History with Silver and Bronze Medals at ISSF World Cup

Indian women’s skeet shooters Ganemat Sekhon and Darshna Rathore made history by winning silver and bronze medals respectively at the ISSF World Cup held in Almaty. This is the first time that Indian skeet shooters have won two senior individual medals at the event.

Assem Orynbay of Kazakhstan won the gold medal in a thrilling shoot-off with Ganemat, with both having finished the 60-shot final with 50 hits each. During the shoot-off, Ganemat missed one of the first two targets, while Orynbay hit both, costing Ganemat the gold medal.

This marked Ganemat’s second individual world cup medal and Darshna’s first world cup medal ever, as she made her debut in the senior final. Earlier on competition day two, Darshna qualified for the six-woman final in second place, scoring 120 and equalling the national record, while Ganemat was fourth, shooting 117.

While none of the three Indian men’s skeet shooters made it to the finals, Mairaj Khan was the best finisher with 119, finishing 16th, with Gurjoat Khangura and Anantjeet Singh Naruka getting scored 119 and 118 respectively, finishing 18th and further back.
