The Spanish League and Espanyol football club are currently working together in identifying the fans who invaded the pitch that led to the Barcelona FC players cutting their celebrations short.
After Barcelona’s 4-2 win against Espanyol, a group of Espanyol supporters from the ultra section behind one of the goals jumped onto the field and started heading towards the players who were celebrating their Spanish League title.
The officials are analyzing television images to identify the fans and report them to the authorities. Riot police blocked the player tunnel entrance with shields to prevent the hundreds of fans from entering it, while some Barcelona players exchanged words with the fans from inside the tunnel during the incident.
The Espanyol supporters threw chairs and various objects onto the pitch but later dispersed without any further incidents. The club has issued an apology, but it’s expected that they could face sanctions after the investigation.
In the current football league, Espanyol is second to last, facing the danger of relegation with four more games remaining.
Barcelona clinched its 27th league title with the win against its regional rival.
