There is growing unease among Toronto Maple Leafs fans regarding the future of the team’s top players following Kyle Dubas’ recent departure. In the latest episode of the 32 Thoughts podcast, Elliotte Friedman revealed some worrying information.
Friedman, on 32 Thoughts, reported that a current Maple Leafs player texted him to say that “nobody is really sure” about what’s going to happen with Matthews now that Dubas is gone lol

Friedman stated that the Maple Leafs’ locker room is full of uncertainties regarding Matthews’ future now that Dubas has been fired. The Toronto superstar’s current contract was signed by Dubas and is set to expire next summer. Dubas’ decision to allow Matthews to walk right into unrestricted free agency must have impressed the young standout. But, with Dubas gone, would Matthews actually consider leaving?
In addition to discussing Matthews, Friedman also delved into Shanahan’s concept of an ideal GM, potential candidates for the role, and the reluctance of many to take on the mantle of running the Maple Leafs.
He also says guys like George McPhee and Doug Armstrong aren’t coming to Toronto with its current structure (i.e. Shanahan above them)

Friedman discovered that Shanahan, with his post-firing presser, has caused GMs to view him less favorably, indicating that it might not be an easy task for Toronto to fill the vacancy of its next general manager.
