WCW Missed Out on Paying Booker T $1.3 Million Before its Collapse, Says Booker T

Famous wrestler Booker T had a successful career in the pro wrestling scene with many achievements. WCW, in particular, was one of the firms that boosted his career. Despite never joining the famous stable nWo, Booker T won several championship titles at WCW, including the World Heavyweight Championship five times.

After WWE monopolized the industry, and with the advent of AEW, WCW’s downfall was seen as the death of pro wrestling. Booker T was negotiating a new contract with WCW named worth $1.3 million. However, the company folded before the agreement came to fruition.

During his Hall Of Fame podcast, Booker T shared how he negotiated his most important contract. Although his agent handled his contracts initially, he later negotiated alone, and it was much more than any amount negotiated for him as part of a tag team. When Booker T was asked how much it would cost to keep him at WCW, he responded with a question: “How much am I worth?” The offer came back even more than he thought, $750,000, which was a considerable amount at that time.

“My next contract was $1.3 million. If the company wouldn’t have folded, my next contract was $1.3 million. It was a great time back then, Eric Bischoff was making us all rich. He said he was going to do that. He said, ‘Book, I’m going to make you rich.’ His goal was to make all wrestlers to be paid like NFL players. I give him a lot of credit for that.”

Despite being offered a spot at nWo, Booker T declined. With such accomplishments in his career, he rejects the idea of having regrets.
